A firsthand look at bKash NexGen Episode 2, where bNext interns explored Treasury, 24/7 cash management, supply chain, financial planning, and revenue assurance.

bKash is widely recognised as a digital financial services leader in Bangladesh, but the scale of financial discipline, operational coordination, and physical logistics behind every transaction is often less visible. NexGen Episode 2 gave bNext interns a valuable opportunity to see that side of the organisation firsthand.
The two-day workshop, organised by bKash’s Finance & Accounts function, brought together teams and Heads of Departments from across the division. Through detailed sessions, open discussions, and a visit to bKash’s central warehouse, interns gained practical exposure to the systems that support financial planning, liquidity, procurement, revenue integrity, and day-to-day operations.
NexGen Episode 2 was not limited to accounting concepts or financial statements. Instead, it offered a broad, practical overview of how Finance & Accounts supports business growth, safeguards operational stability, and enables decision-making across a large digital financial ecosystem.
The workshop introduced the work of several key teams:
Treasury
Management Reporting & Planning
Supply Chain & Procurement
Financial Control
Business Finance
Revenue Assurance & Operations
Each department shared its operational role, priorities, challenges, and contribution to bKash’s wider business. The direct participation of Heads of Departments and other team members made the sessions especially engaging, giving interns the chance to ask practical questions and understand how finance works beyond theory.
One of the most fascinating topics from the workshop was bKash’s 24/7 cash management system. In a digital financial services company, maintaining liquidity is not simply a back-office responsibility—it is essential to ensuring customers can transact reliably at any time.
The Treasury function coordinates closely with Distribution Houses, agents, and banking partners so that e-money can be acquired and managed continuously. As shared during the session, bKash currently works with 14 partner banks to support this ecosystem.
This system illustrates the complexity behind a seemingly simple customer action. When a customer adds money, cashes out, or sends money through an agent, multiple connected operational and financial processes must work smoothly. Treasury helps ensure that liquidity remains available across the network and that the balance between physical cash and electronic value is managed efficiently.
A key takeaway from the NexGen workshop was that commercial activity is a major revenue driver for bKash, but Finance & Accounts also contributes meaningfully to revenue outcomes. According to insights shared during the sessions, nearly 20% of revenue is influenced or driven through Finance & Accounts-related functions.
This highlights the strategic importance of teams such as Business Finance, Revenue Assurance & Operations, and Financial Control. Their work helps ensure accurate revenue recognition, protects against leakages, improves cost efficiency, supports business decisions, and strengthens financial performance.
In other words, Finance & Accounts is not only responsible for tracking numbers after a transaction happens. It actively helps shape how the organisation manages risk, optimises performance, and sustains growth.
The workshop also explored how Management Reporting & Planning, Supply Chain & Procurement, and Financial Control work together to turn business priorities into disciplined execution.
Management Reporting & Planning supports leadership with financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and performance insights. These functions help decision-makers understand where the business stands today and what actions are needed for future growth.
Supply Chain & Procurement, meanwhile, ensures that required goods, services, and operational resources are sourced responsibly and efficiently. The central warehouse visit made this especially tangible. It offered a rare perspective on the physical supply-chain infrastructure needed to support a large digital financial services business.
The warehouse experience was a powerful reminder that even a highly digital organisation relies on well-managed physical operations. From devices and materials to distribution and inventory coordination, supply chain management remains a core part of delivering reliable financial services at scale.
Beyond functional operations, the workshop also provided insights into bKash’s ordinary and preferred shareholding structure. Learning about shareholder categories and corporate financial structures helped connect classroom knowledge with real-world organisational governance.
For interns, this was an opportunity to see how ownership, capital structure, financial reporting, and long-term strategy are interconnected within a major fintech organisation.
NexGen Episode 2 stood out because it created exposure beyond an intern’s immediate department or project. It showed how Treasury, planning, control, procurement, revenue assurance, and business finance operate as interconnected parts of one larger system.
For bNext interns, this kind of cross-departmental learning builds a stronger understanding of how bKash operates as a business—not only as a technology platform or mobile financial service, but as a complex organisation supported by robust financial and operational foundations.
The workshop was an excellent example of practical learning: experienced professionals sharing real operational insight, interns asking meaningful questions, and an organisation opening its processes to the next generation of talent.
NexGen Episode 2 offered more than a two-day workshop. It provided a behind-the-scenes view of the financial architecture that helps power bKash every day.
From the 24/7 cash-management ecosystem and partnerships with banks to the central warehouse visit, financial planning discussions, and revenue assurance insights, the experience demonstrated that Finance & Accounts plays a central role in enabling reliable, scalable digital financial services.
Thank you to the bKash Finance & Accounts team for organising NexGen Episode 2 and creating such a valuable learning opportunity for bNext interns.
